I have been eating a lot of dairy substitutes lately. I don't know why, I just find it very comforting when I'm feeling down.

Hahaha. Well maybe but it's getting expensive!

No thanks, I just can't do that. It's a part of my past I'd rather forget than to revisit through imitation substitutes. Might be ok for some people but it just dosen't work for me.
I never cared much for any meat except fish sticks. When I crave fish sticks I buy tator-tots (cubed & fried potatoes). Poof. Craving gone.
I recently bought and used a can of fake meat, but it was the first of any meat-substitute I've had in months. I just wanted it for the protein value.
I've had soy cream cheese and enjoyed it but never re-bought. I have soy butter which has been sitting in my fridge for 3 weeks and been used twice.
I went cold-turkey with veganism when I first started - no weaning off animal products, no fake meats, no fake dairy, etc. I took the hard path over my cravings (didn't know any better at the time) and I suppose as a result it's all the more easy to ignore the imitation products.
I don't understand the snobbery some vegans have regarding imitation products. What's so wrong with imitations? Does eating imitations make one a bad vegan?

And do such snobs look upon soymilk as imitation?
I like to have some Kingland vegan cheese in the fridge, ready for a sando, or some tofutti cream cheese. I buy tofu occasionally, and have a daily glass of soymilk.
Eve
No, they would justify their soy milk consumption by saying soy milk is a beverage on it's own and it's not trying to imitate dairy.
Peace, love, and happiness.
Well I guess you're not a snob then LOL
Nope. I love substitutes! I eat them on a semi regular basis now and I find they add variety to my meals.
Peace, love, and happiness.

Each to their own really, I think. Some people can't stand them, some people quite like them. As not as it's a REAL animal - that's the main thing!
i got some vegideli pretend beef slices and they smell like beef?!
i really like them in pitta bread with salad and stuff..but i don't know if i want to like them .fake meat doesn't sit with me quite so well..it's like it's pretending to be real meat.
oooh, super intelligent post there
i've never had pretend cheese and probably won't, i wasn't too fussed about cheese before anyway.
oh boy! I didn't bother reading all of the posts, there's just so many of them. I usually eat fake meat several times a week. It's a good source of protein and fiber and there is so much you can do with it. As for fake cheese... I usually tend to stay away from using. The very first time I used Veganrella on a pizza I made and I almost vomited. Really nasty synthetic tasting stuff. The one vegan cream cheese my store had we stopped carrying When I do use vegan cheese its Follow Your Heart nacho cheese. I only use this for making enchiladas and quesadillas. For the most part vegan cheese is gross.
