    Mail from benedictine - 20/01/2009

    Definitely , we can reassure you ,Bénédictine is fully suitable for Vegans ; Nothing ,during all the process, is used coming from animal sources .

    What you have heard about Bénédictine is completely right !

    At your disposal , anyway ,

    Kind Regards,
    Got a tip off from barnivore via twitter that benedictine contains honey, so emailed them and asked. The reply (from the same person):

    Bénédictine contains honey but among vegans this is still very controversial ; in fact my response was based on Kosher regulations very strict in terms of animal derivatives ;

    It is said that honey is not (unlike Gelee Royale ) , bees carry pollen exactly like birds carry seeds , and for birds botanicals often are a production coming from animal regurgitation !

    I do hope my explanations are as clear as possible and very sorry for my lack of precision in a way ;

    that's quite irritating, thankfully despite coming from very close to Blackburn/ Burnley I've never had it and never fancied having it.

    I don't know of any in shops, I seem to remember hearing that harveys isn't vegan.

    I've seen this in the Animal Shopper i'm sure.... i always drink Harvey's for this reason.....

    EDIT:

    after reading this had to go out and find some vermouth as I hadn't had that since I was maybe 16...well the Noilly Pratt stated it contained milk so I went with Sainsbury's own brand which was labelled as suitable for vegans...having a good time so far...*hiccup* ;-)

    Did the Noillly Prat say it contained milk on the bottle's actual label?

    The bottles I have (purchased a while) back certainly don't mention milk. Will check next time i'm in a supermarket.

    For anyone interested, I wrote an introductory guide to vegan cocktail making a while back, here:

    http://lustrousmusings.blogspot.com/...beginners.html

    In other booze related news, I noticed 3 new vegan labelled 12yo single malts in Sainsburys last night for under £20 a bottle. The 'Highland' variety that I bought is quite drinkable.

    www.veggiewines.com is a good site to find out what alcohols and mixers are vegan - also shows proof emails and letters from the companies which is helpful!

    From Global Brands re: Corkys Liquers

    Thank you for your query received 22.08.12 regarding Corky’s flavours being vegan. I have looked into this for you and can confirm the following:

    Sour Apple – vegan
    Sour Cherry – vegan
    Sour Cola Cube – vegan
    Blueberry – vegan
    Fiery Ginger – vegan

    I hope this answers your question but should you have any more please do not hesitate to contact me in one of the ways below.

    Kind regards

    Baldrick: Yes, it's like goldy and bronzy only it's made out of iron.

    Can it be that nobody has mentioned http://www.barnivore.com/ yet? Or have I simply overlooked it?

    Anyway, I normally find it quite helpful.

    Regards, Andy
