"Eating responsibly at McDonald's is like going to a strip club for iced tea."
We've been had. Reading the one of the reports it says:

Fritz D'Embrio ?

"Joe King from the UK Vegan Society said"
I nearly fell for it... if I hadn't already been taken in by the penguin on the Thames story ... I would have been less suspicious!!
You guys must really miss fried eggs falling for that one!

Good thinking Red!RedWellies
Oh it's fake?
Fried eggs are the things I crave horribly. Like almost every day. I wish it was real.
Peace, love, and happiness.
Lol. I rekon they'll probably really try and make one after all the hype.
My turn of mind is so given to taking things in the absurd point of view that it breaks out in spite of me every now and then.

I hope so. I want one now.
Peace, love, and happiness.
Just make a tofu scrambler, they're very good.
If you don't have a recipe, Fantastic Foods makes a tofu scrambler mix that comes in a box. You can buy it online for $1.99, and I've seen it in plenty of stores.

How cruel. I find it hard to believe anything said from the 31st - 2nd of April.

I think thats very funny. Fritz D'Embrio indeed! If you look at the actual press release it does say its embargoed until April 1st, of course, seeing that now...
Anyone fancy writing a 'shocked and hurt' letter to Redwood?
looks like ive got egg on my face
I wouldn't want it anyway as I can't stomach anything fake-egg style after eating real eggs made me so ill.
Nature's way of telling me they're not for us.
Scrambled eggs taste nothing like fried eggs, sorry. I miss the running yolk and dipping my toast into it.FR
Peace, love, and happiness.
I got a depressed a couple of weeks ago and nearly went veggie (Didnt dare tell FR). I bought a quiche (which was my favourite thing), cooked it, went to serve it with jacket spud, hummous and salad. I had cooked the quiche. The smell of the eggs in the quiche made me gag - it was absolutely horrible and I couldnt eat it. I threw it in the bin and went back to my old vegan ways (aahhhh).
I'm going to have to keep my eye on you. You better behave, and remain vegan.tabitha
Well for me that's a good thing since I think eggs are absolutely disgusting. I never liked them, even when I was an animal corpse eater. Scrambled tofu doesn't taste like scrambled eggs, it just looks like them.Tigerlily
Hmmm, have to admit that scrambled eggs is one of the few things I miss about being vegan cos there's not really a convincing alternative. Scrambled eggs on toast was my absolute favourite brekky when I was a kid (when life was much simpler!) and one of my favourite student snacks was cheesy scrambled eggs..
Come to think of it, I can't really think of anything more artery clogging than cheesy scrambled eggs so I've probably considerably extended my life expectancy.
Aw I nearly went back to vegetarian to a few weeks ago to. I hate the smell of eggs whatever way they are cooked.tabitha

Aaahh cheesy scrambled eggs a forbidden fruit to us now my friend.veggiesosage
Youre so strong and masterful FRFR
I would think a vegan quiche is pretty easily doable
Going back to veggie is NOT an option.
Repeat after me:
Milk is full of pus, blood, cholesterol and cancer promoting hormones. Milk production causes physical and mental suffering and death, is detrimental to the environment and is part of the meat industry.
Eggs are full of cholesterol and blood. Egg production causes the death of many young male chicks. Spent hens are slaughtered way before the end of their natural lives. Egg production is part of the meat industry.
The above is in "best-case" commercial scenarios.
"Danger" could be my middle name … but it's "John"
Great points, Rob!
Oh, Tabs and Witchy, I'm glad you didn't slip. Please stay vegan. xxx

And that's your opinion. My opinion is that I like(d) the taste of eggs. I never liked scrambled eggs and I don't like scrambled tofu. So offering to me as an alternative to fried eggs isn't going to work.FR
Peace, love, and happiness.
At the end of the day we all presumably liked what we ate before we went vegan - otherwise we wouldn't have eaten it presumably.
I do miss fried egg sandwiches amongst other things - but I can certainly cope without them.
"Danger" could be my middle name … but it's "John"
I was looking after a couple of rescued hens a while back and tried an egg but it made me feel quite queasy so, after that, I gave them to my dogs.
Only $1.99? Wow, this costs £3 in Veganstore UK ($5.20) so I gave it a miss this time. Its not fair, nice things are too expensive in rip off BritainFR
Should be straightforward enough to make from scratch. Should be healthier and cheaper, too.
"Danger" could be my middle name … but it's "John"
i havent tried this but i will do!Maisiepaisie
£3 isnt so bad is it?i havent seen ohw much you get though i guess.
It comes with 2 packets. Each packet mixes with a package of tofu. You can certainly stretch it with extra veggies added.sugarmouse
I used to use this but recently just started using my own spices. Cheaper, and I don't get any added salt!
I just sautee onions in a pan, add some other veggies (I like mushrooms, red peppers, brocolli), then I add the tofu, some tumeric and some fresh scrapped ginger. I added a bit of fresh basil at the end.
Check out the spices in the ingredients to see and you may have them laying around! It is mainly tumeric for color, and dehydrated onion, peppers, garlic for taste. I think there are other spices, but choose what you like. They have a lot of salt too, it always left me very thirsty.
I have to admit, tofu scramble does not really taste like scrambled eggs. But it is a good replacement when you want something savory with protein for breakfast.
I was never a fan of eggs (agree with FR on this one I am afraid), but I love tofu scramble.
We never had eggs in our house as veggies anyway, the only time we purchased them was for baking cookies/cakes. And then, I always had to wash everything down, risk solmonella from eating raw batter, etc. Egg replacer is much more convienent, IMO.
The thing I miss most regarding eggs, is being able to randomly eat any cookie I find laying around the office! Probably not a bad thing really...
Am I the only person who remembers this particular April Fool doing the vegan rounds a year or two back?
Otherwise I might have been fooled too.
Lesley
I remember the Vegan Society doing a 'vegan egg' April Fool a couple of years ago. They said something along the lines of 'our eggs make a cracking omelette' etc.
Pretty funny at the time I thought :.
Rob(QG)
Well said Rob. I made a fantastic vegan quiche last week, using tofu blended with onion, garlic and a few herbs, spices and with vegan cheese added to the mixture before cooking. I also decorated it with sliced tomatoes.
It tasted great, even my omni parents said it was just as good as a dairy quiche.
