Thought i would just mention this chocolate i came across the other day:

    http://www.malagasy.co.uk/our_produc...php?prod_id=21

It's a chocolate i haven't really seen around before and it's quite expensive.
I was tempted to buy some.... but didn't (see i'm not a chocoholic...)
it's organic and big on fairtrade, the entire product is made in Madagascar, so unlike many companies that purchase the raw materials and then process them here, (where most of the value is added), they don't......

Sounds lovely, Kev. Not sure about helping them "develop their beautiful island" though. They could have phrased that better.

Haha, actually that was the reason that tipped the balance. However, i'm kinda thinking they mean develop in a different way.

'Over the next 10 years, by equipping Malagasy producers with the latest technology, we will raise the incomes of the rural families of Madagascar.

Not only will this free them from poverty, it will enable them to preserve for us the unique ecosystems, habitat and wildlife of “The Red Island”. '

Development in Capitalist soicety is an appalling concept. To me it means exploiting nature, (people, animals and the environment.)

It's like many products i don't wholly agree with their ethos, even as far as they are products... however, at least they are pretty explicit here. Maybe mail them for more info..... i know you like to talk to people.

I haven't tried that many vegan chocolate, i'm not really meant to, but sometimes I'm naughty and do anyway!

    I've tried the...

Organica White Chocolate - Nice, tastes more like white chocolate, except it is a bit sickly after a while

Organica Couverture Chocolate - Hm, I dunno, it was ok, I suppose. Better than other (vegan) milk chocolates I've had!

Organica dark chocolate with hazelnuts - I quite like this one, although I've always liked hazelnut chocolate...

    http://www.veganstore.co.uk/humdinger_bars.html - I've had the crispy one...mmm...ok...I suppose. lol

I've had some Green and Blacks too...raisin...ginger (ew).

Plus I've had a few of the Plamil ones...I hate those ones!

I've never been to Hotel Chocolat...but I like the look of those things absentmindedfan had posted.

Mm, I've had the hazelnut truffle ones, they were nice. Kinda expensive though, they sell them where I live, I'll treat myself next time I've got money.

I don't know what is is about the Plamil...got a weird taste to me...they all taste kinda...orangy...well they have a weird taste anyway, all the ones I've tried.

    I've had the...
    • Dairy FREE Chocolate
    • Dairy FREE Choclate with Hazelnuts
    • Dairy FREE Orange Chocolate
    • Dairy FREE alternative to Milk Chocolate
    • Organic Expressions
All were horrible! They sell them at ASDA.

I had to go to Tescos the other day and discovered Green and Blacks with almonds, (the big bar) - it is reaallly nice! Sainsburys dont stock it though (where I usually go), so I might just have to go back.

I haven't come across them available online yet either....they do seem to be taking a while to filter through to a wider availability.

Were they limited edition though? I'm wondering if we've missed them. (The health food shop in Croydon says they aren't even on the order list.)

They still had them in my shop last time I looked. I'll try and remember to ask them if they know next time I'm in there. Perhaps I should buy lots and set up my own by mail choc company??

I'm busy working my way through a chocolate cake, managed about a quarter of it so far... don't worry i won't give up.

It's from the vegan cake book which is £2.99 available from http://www.animalaidshop.org.uk/cookbooks.htm
and is very light and spongy, though could do with being slightly richer, but perhaps that is how mum made it... depending what cocoa was used.

I've tried the organica spicy marrakesh style chocolate bar, i wasn't that impressed, it was a bit too spiced.

Don't think i'll be getting that one again, but worth trying.

yesterday, after my last final exam, i was so desperate for chocolate and i didn't have any in my office...then, i remembered that i had bought a box of chocolate pieces a while back, but had left it in the car and SHOCIKINGLY in the middle of february in NY we had a warm day and it actually all melted! i put it in the fridge and hardened into the shape of the box.

so, yesterday, i remembered about it and i got the box out of the office fridge and separated the chocolate from the box and bit into the huge slab of chocolate desperate times call for desperate measures

It's very simple. Just black tea, with a spoonful of drinking chocolate, a pinch of cinnamon and soya milk stirred in. You could try adding other spices to it too.

I happened to wander into Hotel Chocolat today. I don't often as bars of chocolate make me feel sick and the vegan provision at HC is mostly such confectionary.
    However.
I went in there today and spied these:

(apologies for massive pic but I wanted text to be readable)

And you'll be pleased to know that these were just TWO of the selection available, I spied at least 1 other (a nutty almond crunchy thing) but restrained myself.

So go! Go and feast upon the chocolate!
Well, fed up as I am of checking their website for these chocs and having no joy I have just e-mailed Hotel Chocolat to find out if they have any plans to make them available through the website

    I can imagine Puffin

unfortunately, for those without access to a Hotel Chocolat store the news isn't too good, I had this reply a little while ago:-

    Dear Ms ******,

    Thank you for your email.

I apologise but the ribbon packets of six chocolates are only available in our shops. We may from time to time have them in our Chocolate Tasting Club selections because this is how many of them start off. I hope this answers your query.
