    Default Ice cream makers????

I'm thinking of investing in an ice-cream maker as vegan ice-cream is rather expensive and I want to experiment with my own flavours etc.

Could anyone recommend a decent ice-cream maker available in the UK?

    Many thanks!!

first look at your kitchen counter/freezer space. second estimate how much you will scarf/share. third go down to John Lewis (my favorite) and handle/ take apart several models to judge ease of operation, durability clean-up. fourth tell me which one you picked 'cause I want one too!

I've had a couple of ones where you freeze the bowl and then put the mixing gizmo on and they were both fine. If you look on Amazon there are probably user ratings and that should help.

Do *not* get a 'double treat' - available from Avon and also QVC - they're cheap but the temperature sensor is terrible on my one.

There are quite a few vegan ice cream recipes you can google for that don't require an ice-cream maker at all - you just have to take them out and stir them a couple of times. I know an ice-cream maker makes it a lot smoother though.

I was thinking about getting an ice cream maker too, but I'll probably just make mine without it until I get out of college, although I really have no problem paying extra for things specifically created to be vegan. It's a good incentive to get other companies to follow suit.

I know that Rice Dream has a Mint Chocolate Chip flavor that tastes pretty good, if you don't feel like making your own

Unless Cherry can convince me otherwise, the next icecream maker I buy will be a Gaggia or a Magimix

Goodness. Why would I want to convince you otherwise!? If you want to buy a Gaggia I think you should Then I can borrow it

Perhaps I should have said "I've got a Philips one (like this) and it's fab considering it cost about £30!"

i really think the non electric and mix it w/ a crank old school ones make the best ice cream in the universe. but also along time ago we put all the ingredients in a small coffee can and then in the freezer for a wile and then put it (w/ a lid) in a larger one w/ rock salt and you roll it back and forth on the floor for all eternity and it makes killer ice cream for almost free.

    MMMmmm Ice-cream

I have an ice-cream maker similar to Cherry's. I keep the bowl in the freezer always. There's a little motor with paddles on it and you put the liquids in and off it goes, turns out great and yummy.

    I've just ordered:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...pf_rd_i=468294

Which is a Panasonic one you put in the freezer and turns round on its own.
I have space in the freezer but not anywhere else in the kitchen so this seemed the best bet. Also I won't be using any further electricity. If I had the money and space I'd love a self freezing one.

The ice cream maker arrived last week and I made my first batch last night.
I went for an easy crowd pleaser to start with rather than a healthyer one:
    1 bar choc
    some soya milk
    bit of silken tofu
    bit of soya cream

Blended it and stuck it in. Came out very well, I'm impressed, it was really easy. The main problem I forsee is that it takes a good couple of hours to freeze so I'll have to make it when I'm in the house for a while or know I'll be back soon. Otherwise it might finish and then the blades get stuck in the icecream.
