I just got a thing in the post from the Dr Hadwen Trust, appealing for sponsors for Louise Fennel who will be cycling the entire length of the country from Land's End to John O'Groats to raise funds.
She's planning to take 21 days to complete the journey. Something in the leaflet I got that horrified me was:
I'll be cycling over 1000 miles - it is truly shocking to imagine that for every revolution of my bike wheel, 4 animals are destined to die in British laboratories.
I would love to sponsor her but really can't afford it at least this month.. but perhaps in a few weeks things might change (ie, I get some work!) and then I will. But I wanted to share it with you so that people who aren't on the DHT mailing lists will hear about it too.
I only found a short bit about it on the website - under 'find DHT in your area' on the upper left, then scroll down to find Louise Fennel. You could call them for a leaflet and sponsorship form to be sent or maybe emailed out, I'm sure. There is a page with online sponsorship for another pair who are doing the same trip (seperately to Louise), so they should put one on for her soon.
Anyway, I just thought it was the perfect anidote to all that race for life stuff on recently!
