help please-any1 moved from UK to Australia with pet dog

my friend is under a lot of huge decision making at the moment.
They are moving from UK to Australia and have a much loved family member -their pet dog, that they cannot bare to be parted from but at the same time don't want to put the dog through the stress of moving all that way etc.
Has anybody else done long flights like this and taken a pet?
How did it go ?
What shall she do? Thanks

My older dog has flown back and forth between America and Korea twice. He hates it, but it's only a 17 hour flight vs the rest of his life.

Do Australia and the UK have any kind of an agreement regarding pets? I know that under normal circumstances, Australia has a six-month quarantine...certainly a lot more stressful than a simple flight.

Also, how big is the dog?

Hello, Australia have very strick quarantine laws. When an animal is brought into Australia, it must stay in quarantine for a period of at LEAST 6 months. The owner of the animal must pay for all expenses during this time. We do not have rabies in Australia and this is one way to ensure we don't get it. Hi veggiewoman,
that's a really tough one. We put the dog I had before on a couple of flights and she was very calm about that, but they were short flights, and she was a calm dog by nature. Having said that, they say dogs have no concept of time - one hour or seventeen hours is the same to them. I don't know if it's true or not. The more stressful thing will definitely be the quarantine - six months is a long time. I think so much depends on the dog's nature and the quarantine facilities.
