I sort of doubt most people on this forum would be familiar with either of them since most here are not American but I agree they're both pretty awesome. I wish he represented my district in Ohio.

Thats why I left her website. It talks about her husband Dennis there. For anyone that doesn't know..he ran for President during our last elections but I think too many people find him a bit kooky but many of us find him brilliant. He's also a vegan...not sure about his wife Elizabeth but she sure is beautiful inside and out!

To my post above..just read in Elizebeth's bio ..she's British BTW..
    http://www.commondreams.org/headlines05/1030-04.htm

"Time is spent working with Dennis

These days, Elizabeth still does some work with the American Monetary Institute. She's also adding her personal touches to the couple's West Side home. Inspired by Dennis' vegan diet, she has become a vegan as well, eschewing all animal products, including dairy."

We have more visitors from US than from UK or any other country. ;-)

(It's just that the UK'ers write more.)

One thing I noticed regarding the UK is.....I'm Macrobiotic...I noticed there's tons of British that are also Macro...maybe as much or more than here in the US even though it was started here. Are you seeing any Korn?
    Any on this site?
BTW...I'm New York through and through all of my 59 years but my Dad is from London (Cricklewood) so I reckon I have some lime juice in me too : )

even though it was started here.
I thought the Macrobiotic diet was originally suggested by a German in the early ninetieth century?

I always thought it was meant to be Japanese, something to do with Zen Buddhism as mentioned here http://macrobiotics.co.uk/history.htm Just goes to show!

FWIW although I live in London the only place I've been where macrobiotic food is fairly readily available is Paris, but I haven't been to that many places, certainly not Japan.

I remember Dennis K standing for the presidency but have never heard of his other half before I don't think.

I'm actually rather surprised by that. Oh well, sadly a lot of Americans aren't familiar with who the Kucinich's are either LOL.

I'm originally from NY also but I moved to the circle of hell known as Ohio about eight years ago. Which part of NY are you from?

Yeh! That makes sense of the things I thought I knew! i.e. it was something knocking out out and about in eastern relgions for a while! But scan down a bit and...

"In Greek, macro means big or great and biotic means concerning life, so the word refers to the "big view of life." This meaning suggests that we should relax our small, rigid views of the world so that the underlying unity of nature can be sensed. The word macrobiotic was originally used in literature by the German scholar Christophe Wilhelm Von Hufeland in Das Makrobiotik (1796)."

Oh well! just another of these 'Age of Enlightenment' blokes who (re)discovered old knowledge and set it up it in words in Greek and Latin so it makes it sense in science or Philosophy, rather than religion!... Arh! Well, I suppose! Nothing changes!

Pretty much anything you do or believe in probably started not from where you thought it did. everything riffs off of something else from music to religions.
Macrobiotics goes way back in time and probably went by a different name but it's main concepts are pretty true. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macrobiotic_diet
    " History
The earliest recorded use of the term macrobiotics is found in the writing of Hippocrates, the father of Western Medicine. In his essay "Airs, Waters, and Places," Hippocrates introduced the word to describe people who were healthy and long-lived. Herodotus, Aristotle, Galen, and other classical writers used the term macrobiotics to describe a lifestyle, including a simple balanced diet, that promoted health and longevity."

I studied The Bon' Tradition for quite awhile with Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche. https://www.ligmincha.org/about-rinp...-rinpoche.html

You think Zen Buddhism is original? Think again. The Bon Tradition while a form of Buddhism , Bon came centuries before Zen Buddhism.

There's absolutely nothing wrong in bringing something good into our present moment and future. Thats how ALL THINGS are done...

It would be helpful if you could actually say a little about who Elizabeth Kucinich actually is, instead of assuming everyone on the forum knows who she is and simply posting links.

I've never heard of her. Who is she?

I was born on the east side of Manhattan also and got my first apartment on 7th and Ave. A when I moved out of my parent's place. I moved a few more times after that and eventually bought a co-op in Riverdale in the Bronx. Sold that and lived for a few years in the Hudson River Valley area and then moved to OH. I really miss New York :\

I was a few years too young for the Fillmore before it closed but I used to frequent CBGB's and Max's Kansas City. Nice to meet another Manhattanite.

Well, I'm not an expert myself, but from what I heard, her husband, Dennis Kucinich is one of the few vegan US senators, a former Democrat presidential candidate (for the pre-elections in 2004 and 2008).

Apart from being very fit and healthy at an elevated age, he is notable for having been the single opponent to the infamous 'Animal Enterprise Terrorist Act' that the Republican establishment managed to put through congress somehow on a late friday evening with only 6 representatives present (of which 5 voted for it).

Elisabeth Kucinich is his young and youthful - and also vegan - wife, and they both seem to be vastly popular (at least if you look at how popular outspoken vegans normally are among mainstream US people).

If that sounds interesting to you, why don't you read the links ;-)

    Hope that helps,
    Andy

I'm quite capable of clicking on a link, thanks...

I just think it shows a little common courtesy to other board users to say a few words about what you think is so important as to merit posting. Not to mention that this thread has gone WAY off topic. But that's just me.
