ah damn, I hadn't heard about this. I was just coming to terms with losing John Peel too. Vance was great. In fact I was just reading a Peel biog over Xmas and remember some part mentioning that Vance and Peel were friends and had mutual respect going on. It made me happy because I thought of them - the two coolest DJs ever, hanging out together, talking about music.
Vance of course had the greatest DJ voice, too. I used to tune in to the Friday rock show all the time as a teenager. Like Peel, he'd play some not-so-good stuff, but you know you'd always hear some gems if you stuck around, and you know he was the real deal, bands used to dig talking to him.
And, like Peel, hard to see where the next Tommy Vance will come from.
anyways, Rest easy Mr Vance, have fun hanging out with Bon Scott, John Entwhistle, Jimi Hendrix, John Bonham...
